Disturbing The Dust

It gives me a certain degree of pleasure, to think that
If I ever get published
I’ll be nestled on the shelves
Somewhere between Charles Bukowski and Robert Burns
In those coffee aroma book shops
And small town libraries
Parisienne market stalls and town hall book fairs
Alphabetized and categorized
On bargain shelves and thrift stores
Charity shops and book pulping floors.

Plucked out by intrigue
Disturbing the dust
Slipped in, smooth and straight
Skim read while wasting time
Fingered while sheltering from the rain
Obsessed over and dismissed
Reactions of “Who?” and “Never heard of him!”

It gives me even greater pleasure to know that
Between me, Bukowski and Burns
Two of us are dead
And one of them isn’t me
